Mosquito Control in Mizner Country Club

Mizner CC's 18-hole golf course is integrated with a series of lakes and water features that serve as both golf hazards and stormwater management. These permanent water bodies — warm, still, and nutrient-rich from course fertilizer runoff — sustain Culex quinquefasciatus populations throughout the year. Lakefront properties within the community have the highest baseline mosquito pressure, but golf course breeding affects the entire community.

Mizner CC's far-western location in Delray Beach places it near the eastern edge of the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee NWR — one of the largest freshwater wetlands in South Florida and a primary source of floodwater mosquito migration during and after heavy rainfall. After significant rain events, floodwater species including Psorophora and Aedes vexans migrate eastward from the refuge in large numbers, creating acute pressure surges on top of the baseline Culex population.

Mizner CC's estate-size lots are developed with extensive tropical landscaping — bromeliads, palms, dense hedging, and specimen plantings that create ideal resting habitat for Aedes species. The shade and humidity maintained by mature estate landscaping provide all-day resting conditions that sustain mosquito populations between treatments. Individual properties with dense perimeter planting and covered outdoor living areas require thorough barrier spray coverage of all vegetation surfaces.
